Oracy
At Ormskirk West End, we believe that strong foundations in oracy lead to stronger learners. Children who have the skills to talk through concepts can deepen their learning in many ways. Throughout the year, we will be focussing on different talk strategies to support our children with their oracy skills. With this in mind we have now developed sentence stems for our children to use when answering questions and having discussions in class.
Agree Build Challenge (ABC Strategy)
Currently, we are using the ABC strategy. Children are either asked by the teacher to agree with, build on or challenge another child's answer they may give in a lesson to a posed question.
To build on vocabulary and purpose they must start their answer with one of the sentence stems displayed in their classroom.
Agree, Build and Challenge also have hand gestures for the children to display when giving their answers.
KS1 Agree Build Challenge
KS2 Agree, Build, Challenge
In EYFS the children have the hand gestures and spoken language modelled by the class teacher. They will focus on Agree and Build. Challenge will be introduced in Year 1.
