Rooted in the Community
At Ormskirk West End Primary School, we believe that a great school is more than a place where children learn. We are part of our community, and our community is part of us.
We are proud to be a school that welcomes, supports and works alongside families and local organisations, creating opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.
Our aim is simple: to make a positive difference to the lives of our children, their families and our wider community.
We understand that supporting children means supporting the whole family.
Every Thursday, we run a free Baby Group, providing a welcoming space where babies and their grown-ups can meet, play, learn and build connections with other local families. It is a chance to make friends, share experiences and begin building a strong relationship with our school and the wider community from the very earliest years.
We also run a free Community Shop in partnership with The Brick, helping to make life that little bit easier for our families. This is an important part of our commitment to ensuring that our school is a place where families feel supported, valued and never alone.
Our commitment to our pupils continues throughout the year.
During the school holidays, we run Break Time, our SEND club, providing opportunities for children with special educational needs and disabilities to come together, have fun and enjoy positive experiences in a safe and welcoming environment.
We also provide HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) opportunities during the school holidays, giving children the chance to enjoy activities, make friends, stay active and have fun while ensuring that families can access additional support during the holidays.
These opportunities help us to ensure that children can continue to belong, participate and thrive, whatever the time of year.
We believe that learning is for everyone.
Throughout the year, we are delighted to welcome Lancashire Adult Learning into our school, providing opportunities for adults to learn and develop alongside their children.
By opening our doors to adult learning, we are helping to create a culture where learning is valued across generations. Children see their grown-ups learning new things, developing skills and taking on new challenges – powerful messages about the importance of education that extend well beyond the classroom.
Being rooted in our community also means understanding and celebrating where we have come from.
Recently, we were delighted to welcome our whole community to a special Local History Event to launch our permanent display exploring Ormskirk, the Scott Estate and the history of our school.
The event brought together children, families, staff and members of our local community to share stories, discover our heritage and celebrate the place we are proud to call home.
Our permanent display now provides a lasting opportunity for our pupils to explore the history of their school, their neighbourhood and their community, helping children to understand that they are part of a story that stretches back generations.
From our youngest babies to our oldest learners, from our pupils and parents to local residents and community partners, we want everyone to feel that they belong at Ormskirk West End.
Our community work is about more than providing activities and support. It is about building relationships, removing barriers, creating opportunities and strengthening the connections that help our community flourish.
We are proud to be rooted in our community, and we will continue to grow together.
Ormskirk West End – a school at the heart of its community. ❤️
Throughout the Summer Term, we have been very lucky to receive donations from The Brick charity which are distributed within our community- it's wonderful to see so many people benefiting from the excellent donations.
