Inspiring the Physicists of the Future!

At Ormskirk West End Primary School, we are passionate about inspiring every child to become a curious, confident and enthusiastic scientist. Through our partnership with The Ogden Trust, we are helping to make high-quality physics education accessible and exciting for all our pupils, with a particular focus on ensuring that children from under-represented groups can see themselves as scientists of the future.

We are incredibly proud to be the lead school for the SHARES Lancashire Partnership, bringing together 20 schools to share expertise, ideas and exciting opportunities in physics. Now in our third year, the partnership continues to grow from strength to strength.

Our wonderful Mrs Currie, who has a real passion for Science, works alongside partner schools to develop a programme of high-quality training, practical experiences and exciting events for children, teachers and families. This collaboration enables teachers to develop their subject knowledge and confidence in teaching physics, while giving children opportunities to experience science beyond the classroom.

🔦 Sound, Light, Forces... and beyond!

Over the past three years, our children and families have taken part in a fantastic range of community physics events, exploring:

💡 Light – investigating how light travels, reflects and creates amazing effects.
🔊 Sound – discovering how vibrations create the sounds we hear.
🧲 Forces – getting hands-on with pushes, pulls, movement and the forces all around us.

These events have provided opportunities for children and their families to learn together, ask questions, investigate ideas and experience the excitement of physics first-hand.

🌍 This year's adventure: Earth and Space!

This year, we are turning our eyes towards the skies as our partnership focuses on Earth and Space! 🌎🚀🌙⭐

We can't wait to discover more about our planet, the Solar System and the incredible universe beyond us. Our children will have opportunities to explore big questions, carry out investigations and take part in memorable experiences designed to spark wonder, curiosity and a lifelong interest in science.

👩‍🔬 Developing our teachers too

Our commitment to physics isn't just about what happens in the classroom. Mrs Currie is also undertaking training in the PSCTA approach to teaching Physics – a prestigious, evidence-informed approach that focuses on developing excellent physics teaching and ensuring that every learner can participate, succeed and see themselves as a scientist.

Through the SHARES partnership and our work with The Ogden Trust, we are building the knowledge, confidence and expertise of teachers across our schools, helping to create a lasting impact on physics education for children aged 4–18.
