Our Wider Curriculum

Our Wider Curriculum

At our school, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our wider curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, nurture talents, develop confidence and create opportunities for every child to discover something they love.

We are passionate about providing a rich and varied range of experiences that broaden children’s horizons and develop the skills, knowledge and cultural capital they need to thrive. We want every child to have the opportunity to find their passion, discover a new talent and experience something that makes them think, “I can do this!”

🎵 Music

We believe that music should be a core part of every child’s educational experience.

In Key Stage 1, our children learn to play the ukulele, developing their musical understanding, confidence and performance skills. In Key Stage 2, children progress to learning the keyboard, building on their musical knowledge and developing greater independence and proficiency.

Our musical experiences extend beyond the classroom. Every year, our children have the opportunity to take part in Young Voices, joining thousands of other children for an unforgettable celebration of music and performance.

🎭 Performing Arts

We are incredibly proud of our ongoing partnership with the Liverpool Empire, which is now in its third year.

This partnership provides our children with truly memorable opportunities to develop their confidence, creativity, teamwork and communication skills.

In previous years, our children have performed Shrek The Musical and High School Musical to packed audiences at the Empire. For many of our children, standing on such a prestigious stage is an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.

We believe that every child should have the opportunity to perform, express themselves and experience the excitement of live theatre.

♟️ Chess & Thinking Skills

We want our wider curriculum to offer something for everyone.

Our children have access to free chess lessons and regularly participate in inter-school chess competitions.

Chess develops concentration, strategic thinking, problem-solving, perseverance and the ability to think ahead. It provides children with an opportunity to challenge themselves, develop new skills and discover a passion they may not have known they had.

🎨 Art & Creativity

Creativity is an important part of our wider curriculum.

Every year, we welcome an artist in residence, giving our children the opportunity to work alongside practising artists and explore a wide range of artistic techniques and styles.

These experiences allow children to develop their creativity, confidence and artistic skills while discovering that art can be a powerful way to communicate ideas, feelings and experiences.

🐴 Equine Therapy

Our children absolutely love our Equine Therapy programme, which we have proudly offered for four years.

Working with horses provides children with meaningful opportunities to develop confidence, communication, responsibility and positive relationships in a calm and supportive environment.

It is another example of how we seek to provide experiences that support the whole child and give children opportunities to flourish in different ways.

🏊 Swimming & Healthy Lifestyles

We are committed to helping our children develop the skills and confidence they need to lead healthy, active lives.

Our Key Stage 2 children attend free swimming lessons, developing an essential life skill alongside confidence, resilience and water safety awareness.

We believe that learning to swim is not simply about physical activity — it is an important life skill that every child should have the opportunity to develop.

🔬 Science & Discovery

We have high aspirations for creating the young scientists of the future.

Through our work with the Ogden Trust, our children have access to exciting opportunities that encourage them to ask questions, investigate, experiment and develop their understanding of the world around them.

We want our children to see science as more than a school subject. We want them to become curious, confident thinkers who are excited to explore how and why things work.

🚌 Trips, Visitors & Experiences

We are delighted to offer a full programme of trips, experiences and visitors throughout our children's time at school.

We carefully select opportunities that enrich the curriculum, deepen understanding and bring learning to life.

Whether children are visiting somewhere new, meeting an inspiring visitor, performing on a professional stage, working with an artist, exploring science or developing a new skill, we want them to build memories, confidence and a growing understanding of the world beyond our school.

💫 Something for Everyone

Our wider curriculum is deliberately broad, ambitious and inclusive.

From music and theatre to chess, art, science, swimming and equine therapy, we want every child to find something that sparks their interest.

We want our children to leave us with more than knowledge. We want them to leave with experiences, passions, confidence, memories and the belief that they can achieve things they never thought possible.

🌟 There really is something for everyone at our school.
