Curriculum and Learning at Ormskirk West End

We asked our parents, children, staff and governors what our children should learn, how they will do this and what wider curriculum opportunities we can offer.  We have now used that consultation to rewrite & develop our own bespoke curriculum, the results of this can be found in the 'Intent & Progression' documents below.

Our Curriculum Intent at OWE:

Our children are at the heart of what we do at OWE. Knowing our children, their families and life experiences, we have designed an ambitious curriculum driven by our three core values: Respect, Resilience and Aspiration.

These values are woven through each subject in the curriculum we deliver. While our curriculum encompasses the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, our vision is to provide our children with a range of learning experiences beyond the classroom to enhance their learning and use the science of learning to ensure that knowledge is learnt. We have planned our curriculum to promote curiosity, to meet inspirational people and to ensure that we teach how to be responsible citizens of the future. It is broad and balanced, with opportunities for pupils to celebrate, share, and aspire to all the can be as they venture onto their next learning adventure in life.

Our school follows the National Curriculum introduced in September 2014. All aspects of our curriculum are accessible to all children, irrespective of their ethnic background, gender, disability, religious or linguistic background. We strive hard to meet the needs of those pupils with special educational needs, those with disabilities, those who are more able, those with special gifts and talents and the children who are learning English as an additional language. We provide a rich, challenging curriculum, which stretches all of our children. Staff are aware of children who have exceptional talents and gifts and monitor or track their progress carefully to ensure their academic potential or talent is continually developed.

If you have any questions about the curriculum we teach please speak to your child's class teacher or contact Mrs Currie.
